Karen Broughton has over 18 years experience in financial accounting and financial management. She has spent almost her entire career working for non-profits in some capacity. She began her career in the Education Department at the National Association of Life Underwriters. From there she moved to the American Society of Training and Development – first as an Account Manager and then promoted to Director of Sales. Karen’s next opportunity was at the American Foundation for Urologic Disease. Although her main responsibilities were as an Event Manager, she also took on the role of the Associations budgeting and many financial responsibilities after earning her MBA with a concentration in Finance from Marymount University.
Christine has over 27 years of experience in project management and bookkeeping. She joined C.E.A. Scholtes & Associates in February 2024 after two years as a Compliance Officer for a Hunt Valley-based financial investment firm. Prior to that, she co-owned and operated a successful residential remodeling company. Christine earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with academic honors in the Order of Omega Honor Society. She has a considerable amount of experience in project management, budgeting, accounts receivables and payables, QuickBooks, bank reconciliations, and credit card reconciliations. Over the years, Christine has helped many different nonprofit organizations, but she is most proud of her volunteer work with the American Red Cross after the devastation at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building in Oklahoma City, OK, where she served as the Assistant Resource Coordinator for the rescue effort in the days following. When Christine is not spending time with her family in Carroll County, she most enjoys practicing yoga and relaxing at the beach.
Jessica is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with nearly 20 years of experience in public and governmental accounting. Prior to joining C.E.A. Scholtes & Associates, Jessica worked at Worcester County Government (WCG) in Snow Hill for 12 years as the Enterprise Fund Controller until her promotion to Deputy Finance Officer where she assisted the Finance Officer in directing the functions and activities of the Treasurer’s Office. During her tenure, WCG was awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association for 12 consecutive years.
